Kalangay (Philippine Cockatoo or red-vented Cockatoo)
The kalangay (Cacatua haematuropygia) is another species endemic to the Philippines. This bird, considered to be one of the most exotic in the world, is distinguishable from other cockatoos by the red feathers around the vent, the pale yellow underwings and undertails and is generally quieter.
The kalangays have a wingspan of at least 9 inches and can grow up to 12 inches in length (beak to tail). They are also known to mimic human voices and are considered to be ideal pets due to their sociability and no-fuss eating habits.
